There were occasions where it lagged but this was an interesting story of Corvis Rebaine who almost conquered the world before giving up. Now his legend is coming back. He feels a need to do something when his family is threatened and he brings the old gang back for another go at conquering, if only to stop Audriss from taking power. However bad Corvis would have been, Audriss would have been worse.
Full of doublecrossing, nasty characters and rocks and hard places. It lost some sympathy for the handwaving about his relationship with his wife which somewhat resembles Stockholm syndrome.
