Not a bad read about a silent invasion of the world by aliens who are in the form of parasites and who regard themselves as souls and their hosts as little more than animals. However it did leave me feeling a little off by the end of the story and I was left fairly unsatisfied by the entire experience. In fact if it wasn't for the fact that I was stuck in a hospital emergency room I don't know if I would have actually finished this read. There were parts that were interesting and clever but there were also parts that dragged and didn't flow as well as they might.
It's the story of the Wanderer, who is inserted into Melanie. Usually when the souls enter the hosts the host retreats and seems to disappear. However Melanie is different and fights the invasion. This leads to the Wanderer seeing images of her boyfriend, Jared, and leads them on an adventure where they find some "wild" humans. This is the most interesting part of the story, where the Wanderer tries to reconcile her two halves and the two men who are in love with her.
It's interesting but somehow it just lacks a certain something and I felt very let down by the ending, something just felt wrong in it.
