The story cycles around Bart O'Breen, a man who has no real consideration for other people but skates through life doing as he wishes. There was Breeda, a lovely young girl robbed of sight after a fall off a cliff. There was Sheil, who tempted Bart into the shame that drove him from the village. Then there was Joseph, who had priestly ambition, doomed to disappointment. All of them whose lives are influenced by Bart, but will he ever realise what he has done?
It's all about a small village in Galway. The things that happen and the ways people deal with life, love and disappointments. Very readable, I found it better than many others I've tried reading.
