No Place For A Woman

No Place For A Woman - Donna Hay The story of two women trying very had to do what is expected of them could have been a good book but gets muddled with issues that twist and turn in themselves and don't really work. It's hard to put a finger on why but it just fell a bit flat for me. Maybe if there was more depth to either of the female leads then the story might be different. Finn Delaney is hiding the fact that she works on building sites from her father. He thinks she's a hairdresser but in fact she embraced her dreams and became a worker. She has to fight discrimination all the time. She's put on a site belonging to an arch-rival of her father, the Tates. Meanwhile Gina Tate who is married to a philandering politician now has to try to find a place in the world. She's spent most of her life trying to please her father and husband and has forgotten herself. There was potential for a good book here but it didn't quite work. Maybe because I really didn't feel that a lot of the physicality of working on a building site reflected reality.
